Below you will find a list of websites that you may use to find credible sources for your essay. Remember that you will need to use three pieces of evidence from three different sources. You may paraphrase one, but you must use direct quotes for the other two. To decide which one to paraphrase, choose the one with the longest quote, and paraphrase it. Before beginning, do two things:
OK, Mrs. Maldonado! Enough already! I'm ready to research! Where can I go? You may use any of the sites listed below. You may not use any other site. When searching for your topic, do not type questions or full sentences into the search box! Just use key words. If you are in favor of something, search for benefits of that thing. If you are against it, search for dangers of it. For example, if you are in favor of people keeping exotic pets, you would look up "benefits exotic pets," but if you are against it, search for "dangers exotic pets" or "problems exotic pets." Got it? Good! Still don't get it? Raise your hand! Research Databases You may use any of the five links under the heading "Research Links" on our library's website. Click here. Newspapers You can search for articles about your topic on the following sites: The New York Times (national newspaper) The Washington Post (national newspaper - click "search" when you get there) The Times Picayune (New Orleans newspaper - click "search" when you get there) The Advocate (Louisiana newspaper - the search box is on the right side of the page) For my students who were trying to use school email, go here. Login using your regular computer username and password. To attach something, click the paperclip. If you are working from home, your parents can help you send an email.
