Homework:
Monday - 1st Block: Finish writing expository essay. 2nd Block:Read and annotate the article on pp.193 - 195 of SpringBoard. Tuesday - After reading the excerpt from the “Letter on Thomas Jefferson,” students should complete the graphic organizer on p.191. Wednesday - Read and annotate copyright law article, and answer the three questions provided. Thursday - 1st Block: Answer the questions at the top of the George Washington article. 2nd Block: Read and annotate p.199 in SpringBoard. Friday - Read and annotate ch.6 of Harriet Tubman using the CSR chart. Interested in entering a writing contest for a chance to win a trip to the Major League All Star Baseball contest, laptops and tablets for you and your classmates, or other great prizes? Check it out here! Honors students will need to have both Harriet Tubman and Connecticut Yankee in class with them this week! All other students should have Harriet Tubman with them every day! Homework No school Monday (MLK) or Tuesday (PD). Wednesday: AEC - Given the last paragraph in chapter four, what do you think that the Canadian government's attitude towards slavery was? Thursday: Using the guide on p.184 of SpringBoard, complete the graphic organizer on p.185. We will begin to read Harriet Tubman this week! All students should have checked out a copy from the school library or ordered a copy for $7.00 through me. (I just get them on Amazon, so parents are welcome to order them as well). Homework: Monday - Students need to finish writing their claims, reasons, and evidence from p.165 in SpringBoard. Tuesday - 1st Block - Students should write a paragraph describing the exposition of Harriet Tubman (setting and what's happening at the beginning of the book) after finishing reading chapter one (we began in class - may or may not finish). 2nd Block - Students should read and annotate the article about cheer leading in SpringBooard p.173 - 176 and fill in the graphic organizer that follows. Wednesday - Students should read and annotate the football article on pp.177 - 179 of SpringBoard and answer question 12 on p.179. Thursday - 2nd Block Only - Expository AEC: Do you agree with Denmark Vesey when he says that a man who does not consider himself to be equal to other men is not equal to other men? Why or why not? Happy New Year and welcome back! This week we will be beginning unit three in SpringBoard and learning all about how to write persuasively. In the first nine weeks, the focus was on narrative writing, and in the second nine weeks, we worked on expository writing. By the end of the third nine weeks, students should feel like experts in the field of persuasive (argumentative) writing!

Tuesday: Students will make corrections to the writing portion of the Julie of the Wolves assessment Wednesday: Pp. 2 & 3 in argumentative writing packet. Thursday: Pp. 4 & 5 in argumentative writing packet. Friday: Pp. 6 - 8 in argumentative writing packet. |
