Homework & learning updates
The Halloween Dance is this Friday! Tickets can still be purchased in the office for $10. The price includes admission, pizza, and a drink. Students can wear their Halloween costumes to the dance! Students will have an open book test on Tuesday. They will read a passage of Freak the Mighty that we have already read, and they will respond to a writing prompt. We are going to the library on Wednesday! Please be sure that any books that need returning are with your child so that he or she can check something new out. Some students still have not gotten copies of Freak the Mighty, and we are in our third week of reading it. It is available for free in our school library, or students may purchase it for $2.00 from the librarian if they would like to have their own copies. Homework Monday - Choose four words from the list to add your notebook: hoodlum evasive confrontation archetype quest <-- All students must do this one, as it appears multiple times in the book. Again, when doing vocabulary for your Freak the Mighty notebook, you must write the definition in your own words, then use the word in a sentence with enough context clues that the reader can tell what the word means. Tuesday - Choose four words from the list to add your student dictionary: artifact horizon steed incision divulge bionic* (must do) blouse conceal retrieve (al) distress* (must do) significant Wednesday - AEC: What significant actions have contributed to the development of Freak and Max’s relationship? Thursday - Write one literal, one inferential, and one critical question for chapter ten of Freak the Mighty. (We practiced this in class, but you can use SpringBoard for help or check out my LCI help on the resources page of this website). Monday - Students should complete the common and proper nouns handout.
Tuesday - Write 3 definitions in your own words & write an example sentence for each. Pick from uneasy, offend, tenement, & regurgitate. This week, we will begin to read Freak the Mighty. Students may choose to check out a copy from the library, or Mrs. Peralta (our librarian) has them for sale for $2.00 a piece. All students must have the book and a spiral notebook (from the school supply list) by Wednesday.
Monday - Students should complete the capitalization practice sheet. Tuesday - Write 3 definitions in your own words & write an example sentence for each. This is exam week, so homework will be less demanding of students' time, as they should use their time studying for their classes and getting plenty of rest.
Monday - Students should write an AEC paragraph answering the following question: What is the theme of "The Treasure of Lemon Brown?" In this case, students should tell what lesson the story teaches, as that is one of the definitions of theme that we use consistently. We read the short story today in class, and it can be found beginning on p.70 of their SpringBoard textbooks. Tuesday - Grammar practice sheet (possessives review). Because of the exam schedule, some students will not have my class, and thus will not receive this homework until tomorrow. The schedule is: Tues - 1st, 3rd, & 5th periods Wed - 2nd, 4th, & 6th periods Thurs - Extended 7th period & shortened periods for all other classes. Wednesday - All students should be have a rough draft of their embedded assessment to have a parent/guardian read and offer advice. This is their homework. They will bring home a slip of paper for a parent/guardian to fill out in reference to this rough draft. Thursday - Finish the final draft of the embedded assessment writing. Friday - None. |
