Homework & learning updates
Please see last week's post about Speech Night. ALL students must know their poems/speeches and be ready to perform them in front of the class by this Friday.
Monday - AECEC compare & contrast the family dynamic in Tom Sawyer to that of either Freak the Mighty, The Lightning Thief, or Harriet Tubman. Tuesday - Finish reading the drama on pp.276 - 280 and answer question #4 on p.281 in AEC format. Wednesday - Perform your speech or poem for a family member and ask them what you were good at and what you could do better. Take notes on their response and have them sign it. Thursday - Perfect your performance of your poem or speech for tomorrow. Practice in front of a mirror, multiple people, the family pet, and who/whatever else you can think of! Speech night is May 14th! Students must know their poems/speeches by Friday, May 1st and be ready to perform them in their classrooms. Every student will recite a speech or poem from memory. By now, every student has selected the poem or speech that they would like to recite. This public recitation will be counted as a test grade! Students who excel and express a desire to compete at speech night will be invited to do so, and they will receive additional public speaking coaching from Ms. Maldonado in the following two weeks. Speech night is an important tradition at Andrew Jackson, and we hope that many sixth grade students are moved to participate. Monday - Students will search for a poem or speech that they would like to memorize. (They have been aware of thiis assignment for a week, so many of them will already have poems or speeches). Do the AEC paragraph prompt on p.269 of SpringBoard - What is the theme of The Southpaw? Tuesday - Students must have a poem or speech to get approved for tomorrow's class. Wednesday - Students need to memorize the first stanza/paragraph of their poem/speech and finish annotating "The Raven" by Edgar Allen Poe. Thursday - Students should memorize the second stanza/paragraph of their poem/speech and have a parent/guardian sign the paper to show that the student performed the first two parts without referring to their notes. Friday - Memorize the rest of the poem/speech. Be ready to do a run-through for Ms. Maldonado (not in front of the entire class) on Monday. |
